As part of the Massire project activities, a field school was organized with the cooperation of the Regional Commissariat for the Agriculture Development (CRDA) of Medenine on May 26, 2023, at the Vocational Agricultural Training Center of El Fje, Medenine.
The field school allowed several female and male farmers, to discuss, with the project team, sustainable intensification strategies and the importance of diversifying agricultural production, particularly forage crops such as barley, triticale, alfalfa, and sorghum as well, the crops intended for soil fertility improvement through incorporation and burial, such as Sesbania. The project team, specifically, presented the agronomic performance of various barley and triticale varieties for different modes of exploitation (mowing, hay production, grain production), as well as the forage quality of these different species/varieties.
